These days, it seems like everyone out there is a hipster wannabe. Whether they’re growing a ridiculous sailor-esque beard or turning vegan as a fashion statement, these people just will not quit. The whole point is that they have to prove just how different and special they really are. And, apparently, the only way to do that is to be as different (or weird!) as humanly possible. That includes everything from wearing odd socks to calling their cats the most bizarre names. So, what are the most hipster cat names around?

Of course, now that these names have made our list, they are no longer cool. Simply by calling them hipster, we’ve ruined them. They can no longer be hipster because they are ‘known’. The word is out there and the cat… Well, the cat is very much out of the bag.
How to choose the most hipster cat name

If you’re looking for a hipster cat name for your own kitty (and you’re not gonna use one from this list), we have a little advice for you along the way. Here are a few rules that you need to keep in mind when it comes to choosing your feline’s brand new name:

1. Avoid the obvious!

This one should go without saying, but in case you’re not catching on just yet, you need to go for obscure names. Don’t just choose a name that you’ve heard a thousand times before now. And, please, don’t choose a name that actually sounds like a cat name. Both of those things are major faux pas. The most hipster cat names are usually ones that you would never, ever associate with animals. Try a simple noun like ‘Chair’ or ‘Tree’, and you’ll be along the right lines.

2. Check if it’s been used

Of course, as a hipster, the very last thing you want to be accused of is copying someone else. Before you name your cat, you need to make sure that no one else out there has done the same. Do a quick Google search to make sure that there’s no other kitty called the same thing as yours. Trust me, you will thank us later for this one. When people hear your kitty’s name, they will be so utterly impressed at how original you are, they will likely be lost for words.

3. Don’t be afraid to make up words

It might be that there is no word that sums up the sheer beauty and grace of your pussycat. If that’s the case, it might be just about time that you made something up. Take the time to create a word, such as ‘Frickelben’, and just go with it. The more you insist that it’s totally a real thing, the more people will start to question themselves and believe you.

4. If all else fails, choose a foreign word

Finally, if all else fails, you will just have to rely on this old fail-safe. Just go for a foreign word. In reality, some of the most hipster cat names out there are not English at all. From ‘Queso’ (Spanish for cheese!) to ‘Chat’ (French for cat!), there are a whole load of options out there. Don’t be afraid to choose a silly name; that’s kind of the entire point anyhow. Just go wild and call your cat something utterly ridiculous, you big old hipster, you!
