Love her or hate her, the first lady of pop is something of a phenomenon. Over the last five years or so, this songstress has won the world’s hearts by creating some of the catchiest tunes of our time. Whether you’re a Swifty or not-y, you will have noticed one rather brilliant thing about this lady. She has some pretty cute kitties. Here’s what you need to know about Taylor Swift ’s cat breed and her very lovely feline friends.

First of all, these aren’t just two regular cats. Oh no, these are kitties with full names, just like we have. In case you didn’t know, Taylor’s cats are called Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey. You’ve likely spotted a glimpse of these two beauties before now. Even if you don’t follow Taylor on Instagram, you may have seen them in the press. You see, these little kitties lead the same jet-setting lifestyle as their main lady.

They’ve come a long way since the hourly cat fights of the past.

When they’re not flying around the world on Taylor’s personal jet (which, by the way, they have their own luggage for!), they’re chilling out with the girl herself. The two cats have very different personalities, actually.

Meredith seems to be the grumpy one. In every picture, this beautiful little feline looks as though she’s frowning her little face off all the time. On the other hand, Olivia is far more happy-go-lucky. She’s the one who always seems to be hanging out with Taylor and enjoying the high life. Regardless, it seems as though the two felines are always loving life.

If you follow Taylor on Instagram (Go! Do it now!), you will notice that you get some pretty funny updates about these two kitties. From time to time, they both act… well… weird! The two of them seem to have the dream life and perhaps that’s why they feel so comfortable all the time. From exposing their well-fed bellies to generally larking around, these cats are just so adorably funny that you won’t be able to take your eyes of them.

One of the questions that many people ask time and time again is about Taylor Swift’s cats breed. So, what are these little beauties, eh? And why do we all love them so very much? Well, we can reveal that Olivia is actually a Scottish Fold breed kitty. Sadly, though, the breed of Taylor’s other cat, Meredith, remains a mystery! Who knows, eh? For now we will just have to keep on guessing as we flick through many pictures of the kitties. It’s a hard life!

Why Do Cats Push With Their Paws When They Are Getting Cozy?

You’ve likely seen your cat doing this cute thing, but why do cats push with their paws and what on earth does it mean?

There comes a point when every cat lover notices this bizarre little quirk about their cat. You probably first saw your kitty do this when they were sitting on your lap. Rather than just curling up into a ball, sometimes, these sweet little creatures will ‘knead’ or push down on your with their paws. This is by no means an aggressive move as I’m sure you will already have realized. Still, what’s the deal and why do cats push with their paws?

They learn this habit as kittens

So, where does this whole ‘kneading’ thing come from? Well, when your cat was just a little kitten, they will have picked up this trait. The fact of the matter is that when cats are nursing from their moms (you know, when they are drinking their mom’s milk!), they knead at the same time. There’s actually a highly scientific reason behind this behavior. You see, the sensation helps the mother to have a steady flow of milk for her young. Essentially, what the kittens are doing is massaging the area to help the milk come out of the teat.

If you happen to have had a cat with a litter of kittens, you may have noticed them doing this. Honestly, it’s really very sweet to see firsthand. All the little cats gather around their mother and copy this very same ‘kneading’ action. What’s rather surprising is the fact that man cats take this behavior well into their adult years too.

It’s a sign of affection and comfort

So, what does it mean when a cat does this as an adult? Why do cats push with their paws when they are sitting on our laps? Well, you will love the answer to these questions. In short, cats knead when they are happy or content. So, when your cat crawls up onto your lap and gets all cozy, the chances are that they are very pleased to be with you. It’s one of the many ways that they show you a little affection.

The moment your cat begins to knead your knees, you should actually feel very honored. They feel comforted by you just like they did by their mother! In a way, they are remembering how it was to be a kitten and mimicking the things that they did back then. Of course, we don’t provide our cats with milk (because that would be gross) but we do give them a sense of well-being and calm. That is much like what their mother would have given them when they were very young.

Suckling and kneading at the same time

Sometimes, you will notice that kneading doesn’t just happen on it’s own. Oh no, it’s all too often accompanied by its partner in crime; suckling. Most of the time, your cat will find a favorite blanket or cushion that they like to knead and suckle at the same time.

Note: Not all cats do this so don’t panic if you’ve never seen your kitty give it a whirl!

When you first see your cat doing this it may look kind of strange. They will be holding some material in their mouth, pushing down with their paws, and sucking away. Sure, it might seem strange to see a fully-grown cat doing this, but it’s very common. Here, your kitty is simulating what they would have done when they were just little kittens. As we’ve already mentioned, this is exactly how your cat would have nursed from its mom as a young animal. Oftentimes, you will find that cats do this for comfort or just out of habit.

As you probably know by now, many people take thumb-sucking into their adult lives. Well, your cat choosing to suckle and knead on things is actually no different to that. They are simply expressing a habit that they learned when they were younger. While some cats stop doing it after they are kittens, many never do.

What if your cat doesn’t knead?

If you’ve never noticed your cat kneading or pushing down on you, don’t panic. Cats, much like people, are totally individual. The likelihood is that some kitties will never develop this habit and that’s perfectly okay. It doesn’t mean that they are not happy around you or even comfortable in your home.

Oh no, cats have loads of ways of showing that they love you, and so you really should not read too much into it!

Revealed: How Classical Music For Cats Helps Them Relax

Question is, is classical music for cats hitting the right notes?

classical music for cats

When you’ve had a long, hard day at work, it’s only natural that you’d need to unwind somehow. While some of us like a hot cup of tea the moment we get in, others use a less-tangible thing to calm our nerves; classical music! Yep, putting on your favorite track is certain to help you relax and forget the many troubles of the day. But what about cat? Will classical music for cats help them to switch off?

You may think that we’re the only species to use this medium, but you’re wrong. You see, we might have more in common with cats than we ever thought before. A relatively recent study has suggested that when cats listen to a particular style of music, they start to chill out just as we do. It might sound a little far-fetched but classical music for cats, does, have calming effects and here’s the science to back up that:

Purr! Put that record on!

According to research published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, music can help kitties relax when they are about to undergo surgery. What’s more, not just any old music can do. It would seem that the feline species have rather high-class taste when it comes to the tunes they like as they prefer classical music above all else.

So, how did the scientists find this all out? Well, clinicians monitored 12 different female cats who were undergoing surgery. Each kitty listened to two minutes of utter silence, followed by two minutes of a classical, pop, or heavy metal track. The cats that listened to the classical music were by far the calmest of the entire group. (Unsurprisingly, those that were exposed to pop music had neutral results and those who listened to heavy metal appeared the most stressed. Duh!)

So, what does this all mean?

Well, the takeaway message here is that cats may like music just as much as we do. For a long time, people have been under the impression that music has no impact on animals, but now that seems seriously unlikely. This study shows that our little feline friends are more perceptive than we ever imagined. What’s more, they actually enjoy music in the same way that human beings do.

Of course, us cat lovers want the very best for our pets. All too often, cats can suffer from stress, loneliness, and even anxiety. This happens when the cat feels threatened or is left alone for a long period of time; neither of which are advisable. If your kitty happens to suffer from any of the above, putting on some Bach can’t hurt. In fact, it might just help your pet to calm down a tad, which can only be a good thing.

The best classical music for cats

Sadly, the study did not delve so far as to find out which particular artists cats like the most. So, for the meantime, we will have to guess which composers are their absolute faves. Still, if you’re completely new to classical music, you might want to start with something well-known like Chopin or Handel. It’s worth taking a look around online until you find some tunes that both you and your kitty will adore. Good luck!

10 Unmistakable Signs That Your Cat Loves You

Love or just lust? Here are some of the biggest signs that your cat loves you!

signs that your cat loves you
Bernhard Latzko / Flickr

One of the many things that us cat owners tend to wonder is this: “Does my cat really love me?” When you adore your little kitty so very much, it’s only natural that you’d hope for the same in return, right? Luckily, you need not worry. There are loads of unmistakable signs that your cat loves you!

While there are many people who will claim that cats don’t ‘know how’ to love, they are just plain wrong. Let’s face it, these people usually tend to be dog lovers and, frankly, they haven’t a single clue what they are talking about. If you suspect that your kitty is in love with you, showing signs that your cat loves you, here’s how you can know for sure.

1. Head-butting you

While head-butting another person would be nothing short of an act of violence, in the animal world it means something entirely different. This is one of the most obvious signs that your cat loves you. They will come up to you and simply bump their head against yours. Don’t be put off… This is just your cat’s way of saying hello.

2. Showing you their tummy

For cats, the tummy is a sacred place; a place that needs to be protected at all times. So, if your kitty rolls onto their back and shows you their stomach, it means that they really do love you. This is a display of trust! Your cat knows that you’re one of the good guys and won’t hurt them.

3. Biting your hands (softly!)

Okay, this one is a little weird, but stay with me here. When your cat starts to nibble on your hands, they are not being aggressive. Quite the opposite. These soft, little bites are actually a sign of affection. (Note: Harder bites can be a sign of aggression… Don’t mistake the two!)

4. Looking you in the eye

Again, this one is all about trust. Cats can be very trusting creatures, but you have to earn it from them. If your kitty will look you in the eye without getting scared or anxious, it means that they love you ever-so-much.

5. Rubbing against your legs

Most cat lovers tend to notice this sign! When your cat starts rubbing up against your leg, they are not just ‘marking their territory’. Oh no, this is them telling the world that you are their special person. Savor the moment, guys.

6. Purring!

There’s a whole load of speculation about what a cat’s purr actually means. Still, when your kitty is making a low, constant purring sound, it can only signify one thing. This is a sign that your cat loves you and, crucially, that they feel comfortable around you.

7. Following you when you walk

When you walk around your home, what does your little feline friend do? Do they follow you everywhere you go? If they do, it means that they want to be near you at every chance they get. It really is that simple.

8. Bringing you little gifts

Let’s be real a second here: Some of the gifts that your cat brings you may be unwanted. Face it, nobody wants to get a dead mouse as a present. Still, if you ignore how gross the gift really is, it’s undeniable what your cat is trying to say to you. I mean, would you get a present for someone you hated? I think not!

9. Curling up on you

When you’re on a major Netflix binge, you should pay close attention to what your cat does. Many kitties find that the most comfortable place to sleep is in a ball on their owner’s lap. If your cat curls up on you, it’s a major sign that they love you. They aren’t even trying to hide it!

10. The slow eye blink

Finally, here’s the one you’ve been waiting for; the slow eye blink. Try looking at your cat and closing your eyes slowly. If your pet does the exact same thing in response, it means that they simply adore you. Go on…. Try it for yourself!
